Plamen Angelov

Doctoral researcher developing photochemical methods for carbon–carbon bond formation and exploring photoelectrochemistry.

Plamen Angelov received his MChem degree from the University of Greenwich, where his final-year project focused on the synthesis of sterically hindered carbon centres and the fluorination of activated alcohols using synthetic electrochemistry.

Plamen began his PhD under the supervision of Dr Xacobe Couso Cambeiro. Following Dr Couso Cambeiro’s move to the University of the Balearic Islands, he continues his doctoral research in the Lam Research Group, with Professor Kevin Lam as first supervisor.

His doctoral research develops photochemical methods for deoxygenative C(sp³)–C(sp³) and C(sp³)–C(sp²) bond formation through ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) activation of alcohol-derived oxalates. Within the group, he will also explore photoelectrochemical approaches to synthesis.
