Accessibility Statement
We want this website and its scientific tools to be usable by as many people as possible.
Using the website
The website is intended to support keyboard navigation, text zoom, common mobile widths, persistent form labels, visible focus and reduced-motion preferences. Current limitations and verified test results are listed below.
Accessibility target
The site is being developed toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Representative pages and interactive tools are reviewed with automated and manual checks during maintenance. Automated testing does not prove that every page, document, calculator, keyboard path, or assistive-technology combination is fully accessible.
Known limitations
- Some legacy scientific graphics contain text that may be difficult to read when displayed at small sizes.
- Some protected laboratory PDFs and specialist file formats may not be fully accessible.
- Older event photographs may have limited contextual captions.
- Third-party publisher, funder, supplier, and University pages are outside the group’s control.
What we are doing
New templates use structured headings, descriptive link text, labelled controls, visible keyboard focus, responsive layouts and reduced-motion support. Complex scientific graphics are accompanied by HTML explanations where the figure alone would not communicate the relevant information.
Test status
Target: WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
Representative public pages and all four interactive tools have been reviewed for heading structure, labels, keyboard operation, alternative text and page-level overflow. Physical-device and screen-reader testing remains outstanding. This statement does not claim full conformance.
Feedback
If you cannot access information or operate a calculator, contact us with the page address, the problem, and the browser or assistive technology used. Use the contact form and choose General enquiry or Lab Tools feedback.
