Finn O’Mahony is from County Clare in Ireland and completed his BSc in Chemistry at University College Cork in 2026. Before moving to Cork, he completed a vocational course in nursing and worked in healthcare throughout his degree.
During his studies, Finn undertook research in inorganic pigment chemistry at Zurich University of Applied Sciences. His undergraduate dissertation investigated laser-induced graphene and the preparation of doped graphene electrodes from heterocyclic polymers.
His doctoral research in the Lam Group develops eTransmutation: Electrochemical Functional Group Transmutation.
Outside the laboratory, Finn enjoys analogue photography and the chemistry of film development. He also sings in choirs and has performed in competitions in Ireland and internationally. He intends to form the Lam Research Group Choir next.
