Kohei graduated from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan with a master's degree in polymer chemistry of post-functionalisation. His master's research focused on the electrochemical C-H post-functionalisation of the backbones of polythiophene derivatives, and he also studied the indirect electrochemical fluorination of organic molecules. Kohei joined the Lam Research Group as a visiting student to study electrochemical fluorination chemistry.
